“Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times the things that are not yet done….” Isaiah 46:10
Some key attributes of God include the fact that He is Holy, Almighty, Omnipotent, Omniscient and Eternal. I often wondered at the fact that God was eternal and understood it to mean that He had no beginning of days nor end of days. This is perfectly right but consider this.
God spans eternity. He declares the end from the beginning because the end and the beginning coincide in Him – there is no time difference in God between the end and the beginning. In God, the end occurs at the beginning and the beginning occurs at the end. This is a hard concept for us to intellectually apprehend because we live in the realm of time. Time is really an interruption of eternity; an interruption in which man exists temporally (notice I didn’t say temporarily).
This is why man talks of the past, present and future. But with God, the future is now and now is the future. With God, ‘now’ wraps up the existence of reality in Him. God is thus called the “I am”. He will not be; He was not; He is. In Him, all things are in the present. Whenever He speaks in time, it is to relate with the mind of man.
What does this mean for me? Everything that God is or has is in Him now. Everything he will ever give is already given. The lamb that Abraham saw with its horns caught up in a thicket was there from the foundation of the world. Abraham beheld and saw the lamb and then proclaimed “Jehovah Jireh” – in the mountain of the Lord, it shall be seen. It seems to me that for a moment, Abraham went out of the realm of time into the realm of eternity where the Lamb of God was slain from the foundation of the world.
When you have a need, you need an excursion into eternity where the answer exists. The answer is not going to come; the answer is. But it is not in the realm of time. You will need to behold like Abraham did – step out of time into eternity and lay hold of the promise. When you do, your prayer changes into that of one who is a possessor of the reality, not of who is believing for the reality. Faith substantiates hope but hope comes from the covenant while faith is in your recreated human spirit.
When you ascend into eternity in the place of meditation and prayers, you lay hold of the hope, the revelation, the reality. When you come back into the realm of time, you set your faith to work – remember that your faith is a servant whose work is to substantiate your hope until it becomes something that those who live in the realm of time can relate to. Give no rest to your faith until its task is done. Remember that Jesus, when talking about faith in Luke 17 from verse 5, said “which of you, having a servant…..will say unto him….go and sit down to meat”. Your faith will substantiate that hope or reality or revelation. But you will need an excursion into eternity to lay hold it.
